Well it is HARD to teach an old dog new tricks. 2 people told me a diffrent way to grip the 45 to tame the recoil. Well trying to change something you have done for 25 years is harder than you might think. Think you have it down pat and then it is right back to the same old thing.

I CAN tell my next shot is faster when I grip it with my thum up and don't have to wait so long for the recoil to come down. Thanks for the advice guys. And I am to stubborn to think about a 9mm yet DAN.LOL

    No worries, Snow.
I put this AWESOME thing on my 1911. I LOVE IT! Unfortunately, it's illegal in IDPA, so back to EBay it goes.

That is nice. The grip thing will come with time. It's just learning something new.

Dan, Really like the grip but the mag release looks a little outta place being square and such. If it were oging to stay on those corners would have to go. Went to ERGC today and did a little range time.

I know it doesn't look right, it's for fast reloads, and it works great, and the gun isn't for prettiness, I have other guns for that. Wouldn't be a bad idea to round it and cerakote if I were keeping it on. Bottom line, this gun is for racing. Even if I'm only comfortable below the speed limit at the moment. Just sucks about the rules.

Yes. It's wearing the DW grips. I like the thumb scoop. My reloads are too slow, I need all the help I can get.

Reloads take the most time, on the qualifying range for the Police Academy (not the movie), I lost 1.5 seconds on a reload on the night fire; and dropped the only rounds from a perfect score on the 15 yard line! It was for a revolver, but practice and muscle memory is developed the same way for revolvers and semi-autos.

Practiced in the auto reload drills as well, let me know if I can help Dan.

Got the results from the GSSF that bullets and Bones ran last weekend. Good experience. Now, to try and find the fundamental to bring those scores down.

Thanks for the offer Ray. I know what I need to do, I watch these guys do it twice a month. I just need the time to practice, that's all. Ideally, id take one day to practice and one day to compete. Hey, there's an idea!

Nah, the races are too much fun. Hopefully as time goes on, I'll just get better by being mindful of my shortcomings. Jogan was right, after shooting IDPA, the static range just isn't much fun anymore.

even though I can't hit shit, watch my reloads from the last two matches. Practice them over your bed. letting the empty mags fall onto your bed is better than dropping them on the floor/dirt. Once you think you've got them down pretty smooth, turn the light off and try again. If you can do a few clean reloads in total darkness, you've got 'em down!

Dude! I watched your reloads, they are EFFIN' slick!

I did the bed drill earlier today. Much easier with my illegal mag catch. Didn't think about doing it in the dark. Only problem: How do you see where the mags are dropping, or do you use a couple of pouches?

    Any help is appreciated.

Quoted for truth! Static range time is still great, but when you want to practice.....

They say that a good majority of the skills needed for IDPA can be practiced with dry fire drills. I suppose it's true.
I'm certainly not saying it isn't. But live fire is where the rubber meets the road.

That that end, It seems to be a little tough finding places that let us do any meaningful live-fire practice. As in, draw from a holster, exercise rapid fire, and with more than one target for transitions. I will say that out our way (Niceville/FWB) the folks at Bullets and Bones have been very accommodating.

You can draw your mags at any range, and thats half the battle, I just love the fun and camaraderie at the matches.

I hear the Glock shoots have pretty good prizes, but honestly, I'm useless with a Glock.

According to my scores I'm pretty useless with a Glock, too. It wasnt a sanctioned GSSF, just GSSF style course so they were letting folks run almost any make/model pistol. I chose to run a Glock 41. Only mod is a sight upgrade. Still, a chance to shoot in a way other than static targets.
