I recently found out about this. Apparently, much like how you can add a VFG on an AR pistol if the barrel is long enough, if a pistol grip shotgun has never had a stock, you can run a barrel shorter than 18" as long as it measures 26.5" overall or more. Sounds like the perfect, handy, reliable, powerful home defense or truck gun. What do you guys think?

Depends on your load but there is not much control with that...I took the pistol grip off my Mossy and put the stock back on and this doesn't even have that much grip. Buy it Dan, shoot and let us know.

Dan, I have one for my 14" 590(on a Form1) if you want to try the stock before you buy it. I haven't used it yet since I usually prefer a stock. I just got it to have options.
If you have a 500/590 to mount it to I can meet you in Milton and you can take it home to try. If you want to try it on a 14" and you want to come over here to the hacienda you're more than welcome to give it a shot(no pun intended). I would say we can take it to a range and try, but many of them freak out over shooting a pistol grip shotgun. If you know of a range near you that doesn't get their panties in a wad over pistol grips I can meet there too. Just let me know a day or so ahead of time. I'm done with school til August, but I've been doing a bunch of catch up on stuff I didn't do during the semester.

Looks cool! Did you find one already?

I changed my 18.5 back to a stock from a pistol grip a while back. Pistol grip was just to uncomfortable for me to fire, but 30 years ago would have been fine.

As long as you hold on to it firmly you will be just fine, the only problem with my 10" 870 is the handstop crushing your fingers if you don't have a firm grip on the front end.

Where did you pick that beast up?

edit to add, don't hold it like this... Sorry Rick :D

How much do they run? Ill puss out and take one in 20ga

Starting with a 500 PGO, after the modifications, including a new barrel, you're around $500.
You might be able to start with a 20ga and just replace the grip and have the barrel cut and a new bead installed for about $400 total if you shop around.

hey bcp, all the rest will "puss out" too once they feel the heel !

20ga is a very smart move... it will do the same damage at any given distance as above is designed to operate at.

macho shit ain't worth the time and expence.
even the 410 will get the job done, if you know what you have got.
