Was able to hand out a free V-max inoculation today!! Yeah!!!
In my race to get the gun up, forgot to turn on kill cam. +88 yards. 223 55gr V-max. 16 inch AR. 1:9t. Magpul 10rd mag. New tactic - sit in bride's shooting house and be quiet, no smoking. This is typical of the yotes we see. One gone, 499 to go!

Thanks for the tips and insight!!!

Thanks!! Just getting the hang of things. Now if I can get this calling business figured out, I can draw em to me. Didn't get to use the nv yet for a shot. This was using the digital daytime mode. More pix. Plot and weapon. Spypoint camera prior to the shot.

Good going James. You will learn from every hunt.
Call with a long range view/shot. Bait and no call at the closer ranges (<100yds). But you MUST BE READY TO SHOOT !!
AND - -> simple, but a no brainer - -> the coyotes can come from other than down wind. A dead coyote makes excellent coyote bait. ( of course RackinRay might want to eat him) At distance more than one might come in. If so,do not try to kill both. CONCENTRATE ON KILLING ONE,USING THE SAME SHOT FOLLOW THRU as yor were taught by other forum guru's. Swing on the other yote. If he aint there, you got one on the ground.
I had tons of sports miss killing the first yote,WORRYING ABOUT THE OTHER 1 to 3 out front. As the alive yote heads out at mach 3,give you best bark several times. BE COMPLETELY READY TO SHOOT. Safety off. If he comes to a screemin' hault, shoot immediately. He will stand still for about .001 seconds.
Again, good going James Now sir, your hooked. ---- SAWMAN

AND - - -> BUY yourself a $10. fish scale (reccomend digital) . Weigh each yote. Keep a log of sex and weight. You'll cherish it in your older years. --- SAWMAN

Thanks!!! Yep, one target at a time. The round went thru, so two would work if standing in line, if I waited.... photo exit side. Insides were soup, so the vmax is doing the job. Also my cold bore shot is a-ok on this weapon.

That's awesome man! I've shot a bunch of coyotes over the years, but only a few times have I specifically targeted them. Most have been moments of opportunity while deer or turkey hunting. Here's one I got mounted that came off Santa Rosa County public land last year.

Thanks! was really surprised at how tall the one I shot was. The other ones I've seen on cam have all been thin and tall. No black colored ones yet. Awsome mount!!

Another dumb question- how good is the 223 at light brush, thick grass busting?? 55gr, vmax.
I had a couple friends shooting in the prone in a field thru tall grass. One shot 223 and one shot 308. The 223 guy wasnt hitting anything, not even edges of the paper. Tried everything. Finally broke out the laser and determined it was blades of grass that was deflecting the 223. He could see the target, but couldn't hit it, while the 308 guy could hit on target all day thru the grass. The 223 guy went to the kneeling position, started hitting on target. Blades of grass he said. I can only imagine the crap shoot that shooting thru brush would be. Might help explain why the M16 didnt kill enough people in the bushes of Nam and all across central and south America, too

Back to the stand tonight, late. Going to take granddaughter along for spotter. Going to bait with something.
Had fun, tested equipment, watched rats. Figured out the issue with the binox. When attached to external battery the ir transmitter in the atn binox dosent work, wth?
Both the wraith and the binox have too narrow fields of vision for watching, observer. Time to drag out the Russian stuff.

Watching rats can be fun. We were helo inserted onto a desert mountain top OP for several weeks. We brought two duffel bags full of junk food to break up the monotony of MRE's, and about a week into it found the rats were carting away our candy bars. Out come the NVG's. I bagged like 20 of them in one night, using a Baby Ruth bar and a cardboard box as a live trap! When the helo lifted up our food container a couple weeks later, we found the ground underneath it honeycombed with at least a 3 story deep tunnel system, maybe 5'x6' square. A freaking desert rat city that had not been there when we set the box down several weeks before. The valley below us to the east was known for wild dogs but we never saw anything resembling coyotes. Plenty of rats to support multiple generations of predators, though

Dug these out of the cannibal looter zombie apocalypse box. Going to try them for observation on hunting area at night. 100% passive, can use ir flashlight with them. Don't remember the field of view @ 100. 2.6x fixed with 8 deg. Ill have to try and see. Possibly use IR lightsticks. Supposed to run 15 hours on a 9v.??
