So what is the final say on this, right now, today? The aft requirements have an overall length and you can’t just take the stock off for a lot of the AR types. For that matter what about stubby AKs which don’t even have a stock? Anyway I can usually find the actual legalese but I cannot on this.

Buffer tubes are ok on AR if they are required for function.
AK with no stock is fine, but it needs to have an end cap or a sling mount on it. I would say any buffer tube or picatinny type adapter on the back could land a felony because it is not required for operation.

I mean, there was something like a 96% noncompliance rate iirc. Those kinds of posts aren't surprising. The whole thing is also still being challenged in courts by FPC and other groups as well - I don't think we've seen the last of it.
