Just remember to put your shades on just before you checkout. All the self-checkouts (including walmart) have cameras and probably sell your image (facial recognition) along with your name and address obtained from your credit card when you use it. js
And make sure the Wi-Fi on your phone is turned off whenever you're in public... public Wi-Fi is "free" because you're the product!

I will use self checkout any chance I can. For years I dealt with slow clueless checkout people now I rarely have to! The best setup is Sam's Club, I can use my phone to scan and pay for everything and just walk out the door past all those people standing in line wasting time!

I'm really OK with self checkout, like most things electronic, when it works... I'm less trusting of the online inventories at Lowes and HD. Have lost count of the times they had dozens in stock, but didn't, or had none, yet had multiple bins full.... They could save a $%^&-ton of money by just deleting that "service." Hell, half the people that work there don't even know there's more stock on the top shelves. I've pointed to items and they looked at me like, "How'd that get there, and whatta my spoda do 'bout it?"

Heck, Walmart has it at the next level. If you are a Walmart Plus member, when you go into Walmart you can scan items with your phone as you go - then at the DREADED SELF CHECKOUT, you simply scan a barcode and pay. No scanning individual items again, you do that as you put them in your cart.

Since you are a Walmart Plus member, they already know more about you so the risk of theft is less (I guess).

When I do that, I just grab a handful of bags and then bag the stuff as I put them in the vehicle.

Better yet I just put the order in on my laptop and have them shop and deliver it to my house for free (since I'm a Walmart Plus member, it's included). Then I miss out on putting miles on the car, gas in the tank, and seeing the people of Walmart waddle around and beat each other. It's a win - win - win.

Yeah, I've used the delivery a few times from Publix when I wasn't going to have time to make it that day. They do ok, but they definitely don't go thru and pick the best veggies or bag salad or fruit, not comparing expiration dates, etc. It'll work in a pinch, but rather go myself.

Lol yea, let them people pick the absolute best products for you, handle and deliver it when you sit home and wait for it. You'll get the best, guaranteed.

    I'll go in person..
Bahahah, you gonna pick the best box of cereal? The best canister of Oatmeal? The best gallon of milk? The best bag of Apples?

Besides, if it comes and is either wrong or defective, the refund your money. I've done it plenty of times when only 1 item comes instead of 2 or something broke open during transit.

At least you didn't show your ignorance with that statement...

Then again maybe you get something out of the best box of Depends and Vagasil cream? IDK, never used that stuff…

With what and how you post in this group, you don't have to cover your tracks. You buy plenty of that stuff to keep that company well in their profit margin. We didn't need to know your personal medical issues..

We use walmart delivery for things that walmart is good for like cleaning supplies and jars of spaghetti sauce, not much fresh vegetables or meat. I was dead set against it for a long time and then my wife won. I don't have to step foot in walmart for those things anymore and that's been great.

The people who deliver to us aren't walmart employees afaik its some third party company. We have some regular drivers that do a great job. I'm sure walmart sells her shopping data to advertisers or whatever but I don't think there is much that's nefarious about it besides that. Anyways just pointing out that not all new things are bad. Ideally though we would be self sufficient somewhere in bfe but then there is reality.

I have walked out of a Lowes before when they didn't have any available cashiers. If they indeed go to a "zero cashier" model I too will take my business elsewhere. Like someone else said - I will NOT support this brave new world of AI, robots and "touchless" BS.

That's exactly my point right there, stuff that is perishable I would like to look at myself. Then again I live 5 minutes from one so that helps.

I mean if you have time to Karen it up for a refund then by all means get what you feel you need.

The best gallon of milk? The best bag of Apples?

Thats completely understandable but they really will refund things with the click of a button. Its ridiculously easy tbh. Anyways ive spent too much time in this thread, first world problems indeed.

I watch some YT videos on people being 'self sufficient', but its funny to see the 5 gallon buckets from HD in the background, the box of Ritz crackers on the table, and the myriad of other stuff the still want to use.

Reality is these days it's nearly impossible to be 100% self sufficient - not if you want a certain lifestyle and access to modern medical care.

I wonder how many here who 'fear' the self checkout would turn down a medical procedure using 'machines' with a Dr working the levers if it saved their lift. The answer is zero people. All that nefarious knowledge that keeps people living very unhealthy lifestyles living well into and beyond their 80s. All those modern medicines that keep their heart from saying "EFF IT, I QUIT ON THIS FAT SOB".

And if you are real serious, make sure to put your electronics in a faraday cage by the mail box.
