My original 6.8 was a Stag 5H and had the chrome lined barrel, I free floated the handguard and it was a tack driver, someone here is still shooting that gun, I loved it.

I know free floating any barrel can result in better accuracy. IMO the 6.8 is still a medium range caliber and if it will stay around 1 MOA as is, then I am happy. Hell, I can't hold 1 MOA unless it's from a rest. If I need long range accuracy I'll drag out the .308. My intentions were a budget hog gun. If I start changing stuff then it won't be "budget" anymore.

You are good to go John for a hog or deer rifle. That is right, the 6.8 is an excellent 0-300yd rd, If I am shooting longer a bolt 308 would be my choice. My ranges are mostly under 200 and for the most part 50-125 so it works well in my situation.

What weight buffer are you guys running H2? I'm setting up a 6.8 as soon as the upper gets here.

yeah nothing wrong w that at all. I want to get an ARP 18" target crown to put on my current rifle, would only be 1/2' longer than the 16" with a flash hider

    Couple of 6.8's

Couple more. The top one is a Bison Upper, and bottom is an ARP Barreled build. Both shoot sub MOA with handloads.

I know this is in the AR forum, but it's a factory chambered 6.8 rifle:

Remington M700, 22" fluted bbl. I'm able to have an oal cartridge of 2.33" and still fit in the mag. Doesn't have a SPCII chamber, but Remington has a reputation of having a generous throat. My load is 30.8gr AA2200, CCI #41 primer, FC brass, Barnes 95gr TTSX, 3078.8 fps average at 70 degrees and 10' from the chronograph (extreme spread of 24 fps if I remember correctly). I think the rifle was made in the early 2000's; no idea of how many were made. I had only known of the Remington 700's in 6.8 having 24" and 26" bbls and weighing a lot when I stumbled across this one on an auction site. It was advertised as Light Tactical Rifle, but the factory box only says Tactical on it. Only one other person bid on it and only bid a minimum amount, so I got it. I've not used it for hunting yet. This is not a heavy rifle outfit. I am tempted to put a rail on the receiver so I can put my thermal sight on it.
