I've had a Winchester 1911 SL for some time and enjoy shooting it. The serial number on the barrel points to its mfg in 1912. Recoil hasn't been excessive but I noticed a crack developing on the handguard. Took it apart and holy crap is there a beast of a spring for the long recoil barrel assembly! The 110 year old buffer pad was amazingly still in one piece and hard as concrete. There was so much caked in crud under the wood that I'd not be surprised it was never taken apart. Anyone ever take one these babies apart and have any tricks on getting that weird notch ring cap on?
