To answer original question......yes you should buy it and you'll be glad you did. I guess the '94 awb is ancient history for most. I had this conversation with another member not long ago to discuss best fighting rifles (semi auto) with non detachable magazines. I.e. that would still be legal under a potential reiteration of the ban. Imo two stand out.....garand and sks. Garland if your a handloader and sks if you're not. Sks really is a smooth shooter with decent reloading speed. Garand same, heavy but with more anti material capability.

Yea, you say that until they say any weapon that takes a "military cartridge" is deemed illegal.

1994 AWB is child's play compared to what they are trying to push now.
Are the proposed laws specifying a military cartridge is outlawed. They would banning about half of your bolt guns since 5.56, 308, 30-06, are common chamberings in many bolt action and single shot guns.
Such laws do exist in many countries.

There has been talk about that.
Can you say where and what you have seen
I am only aware of this. But there may be other bills out there with such bans.
The point is not too go to ape sh_t over a whole lot rumors.
    ext: H.R.127 — 117th Congress (2021-2022)

I agree, why I said there has been talk about it and said it's legal now until some really dumb stuff comes down. Have not seen anything regarding the ammo and completely agree a lot of rumor out there.

There another reason for buying the SKS since it is just a neat rifle. I am a student of small arms design and the SKS has a lot of features seen in experiment french rifles. The french have liked that magazine design a lot. although I am not who first invented it. The gas system has two rod and seems to be short stroke. The lockup is cool also.

Yep, most guns are designed for several years of reliable service, those sks are designed to last decades.

I bought my Dad a new Norinco SKS in the early 1990’s when the Camp LeJuene base PX opened its new store... I swear they got a semi tractor trailer full and blew them out for $75. I sold mine back in the day, he gave me his back (He’s in his 90’s) it’s still NIB with its dang Chinese cosmoline...

I just came home with the SKS, hated to let go of the cash knowing I bought my first one long time ago for $69.95. Never kept one very long, this one will be trading material for the future acquisition of something else

That is very very sweet. I've shot a buddies SKS back in the day and thought about getting one from time to time.
