The lever is the safety, up or down, we come a long way, wonder if it was a John Browning resize, sort of looks like a BAR?

The Model 81 was the later version of the Model 8 which was used in the ambush to kill Bonnie and Clyde. A lot of firepower for the 1930's. Very cool gun indeed.
