The ship that I sailed on many years ago was an ore boat and when loaded the deck was likely less than a meter above the line. That seemed very loaded to me.We were driving by this about twice a week. Ship was probably overloaded as they used to pay the captians a tonnage bonus. Delivery speed is paramount. They still push that. In this instance the 1st mate was right. Had the other ship not been close by all would have died.
