So 3 times now while working in the yard/garden I've gotten into fire ants that aren't like the ones normally around here. These seem to be a little smaller, darker and are so vicious they cover you in a split second.

The bites also sting/itch a lot longer than they used to, and you don't just brush them off, they're latched on so tight you have to squash them. The water hose sprayer wouldn't even wash them off.

Being a gardener I've had my share of fire ant dealings but these aren't like the old ants. I have no idea what's going on with these ants but I'd bet George Bush has something to do with it.

As for the severity of the bite, you're just getting old Rick.

There was some articles on line a couple of months ago about a new invasive species coming our way from down South. When I get home I'll do a search.

And yes, it is Bush's fault......

Well, they've taken up residence in a plum tree container. Anybody's welcome to come by and do a "hands" on test if you have doubts.

I actually like ants living in plant containers, except for the obvious reason. They aireate and fertilize the soil and keep bad bugs out of it. But these guys are exceptionally vicious.
