The union lost the fight before the strike started when propaganda reported they make $200k a year. They want to go down with a fight. Strike only hastens the automation.

As far as suffering, sorry if their freedoms to make bad decisions hurts your feelings.

    Nope

    Never been a union member

I just think it’s their right to go out fighting. I also tend to support American workers over foreign companies. Once the propaganda got out they making $200k they lost the public whose more interested in cheap crap from China.

How did we ever get in a position where foreign companies are controlling American infrastructure? And the public is supporting the foreign companies?

Since at least the 70's. When our elected officials sold our jobs overseas. For (((cheaper goods)))

I have a feeling the ones they LET cross the border will come into play. Just my gut talking. Maybe just gas
I have a feeling you're right! I'll also be stopping after work and getting a few supplies we already have but are repeat buys that may become scarce in a week or two, lessons learned from Covid!

Where the country has messed up and imho will lead to its lean times Is allowing foreign companies to control critical infrastructure and materials.

The union is negotiating against a collective of foreign owned shipping companies and seems most here are rooting for the foreigners, All this is going to end badly for the USA.
Add to that that, instead of manufacturing all the goods we need, we are reduced picking them up off a foreign ship and putting them on the back of a truck, or sitting behind a computer dealing with invoices for foreign goods, or maybe just stocking them on the shelves at Walmart.

i.e., Picking cheap Chinese crap up off of a Chinese ship and dropping it on the back of a truck should not be any American's "Dream Job"!

Ports along America’s West Coast will continue to operate as normal as a different union represents their workers.

Question becomes what imports that pass through the east and gulf coast ports.

Also note this hurts exports through those same ports. I know a couple of years ago sand from the Atmore area was being sent to China through the port of Mobile. Not sure about today.

It’s a fight between foreign ship companies and American workers. I support the Americans.

Maybe you should have supported American companies before they were sold off and absorbed by foreign companies.
Your logic is extremely illogical. It’s akin to saying you support your neighbor even though he beats his wife just because he’s your neighbor.
I’ll support Americans all day right up until they think they’re more important than the country as a whole and will intentionally do things to harm other Americans in need.

I heard on the news today that the union and the companies have not sat down and talked since June or July.
Where is Buttgig? Shouldn’t he be acting as a go-between and getting these people to the table?

Unions are trash and protect trash workers. They only need the trash workers on the union payroll to keep their strength. It’s a legal mafia, and needs to be removed from the US workforce.

Yes, I worked in a union, incompetent assholes got paid $45 an hour to be pieces of shit.

There are 2 non union boats on the great lakes, I'm on one of them. Got more to say but unloading coal for the electric cars.
Ok, now I have time to post my experience with "Unions".
In my business they are a waste of time. Union rules are BS and pit the unlicensed against the Officers.
Good example is the loss of work rule. If dropping cables to throw off to get underway if the Officer touches the winch controls the union guy files an 1 hour ot, because the officer took his work. There's about 25 more bs things that go on like this in the union.
Employees, in the union prob 80% are wacky Iraqis or wherever they hailed from. It's called the "Dearborn connection" referencing the dense foreign population of Dearborn, MI.
All are a safety hazard due to the lack of English comprehension. They actively look for ways to get injured on the job. 90% of our safety memos, stand downs, policy's were caused by these idiots.
Plenty of Caucasian idiots too, so not a race thing. Just a fact.
We are actually making more per hour than they are now, their union tried to strong arm the company and the new owners told them to piss off.
I got a .26 cent raise this year per hour, the union got cut back.
We should be paid more because of time on board but not a bad deal.
FYI- were Amercian Steamship Company but in the industry were referred to as Arab Steamship Company.
I could go on, and on.
Now we get washouts from the Gulf. Don't give a shit, terrible shipmates. Thugs from Tallahassee or nearby. Listening to their stories I have no idea how they keep their licenses. Guys half my age that I can outwork, outlast 10x
Im not a racist im a workist. Do the job your paid for or ride the ladder to the dock.
    20240927_195139.jpg

    Anyway.
Bottom line, were better off not having a union.
** We used to have a union, 20+ years ago, the Local 5000, president went to prison for theft.... any questions?
