Good morning, and Merry Christmas Eve...

I just picked this up and was hoping someone is familiar with it. I cannot find any identifying marks on it, it is a .22-250 and appears to be Mauser action but this is not my area of familiarity. Just trying to figure out what I have, good or bad. Thanks for any guidance and/or input.

'98 action as the flair at the rear of the bolt assembly indicates. 26" barrel looks like? Side safety, looks very well done. Probably 1/12 or 14 twist so I'd try 55's in it. You may have a wonderful shooter and with today's bullets very versatile.

Yep, probably old school on a 22-250 and a slow twist Bbl. IF , you reload , I'd suggest doing the cleaning rod twist test so you know what you are dealing with.

I don't reload, yet! Ok, so a Mauser 98. The floorplate is giving me a bit of trouble re-seating, so know I have a starting place, thank you both very much.

Any idea what it is worth? $4-500$ maybe? Was thinking of moding/upgrading and was wondering if it was a good platform to invest in.

Value very subjective I think on a run of the mill sporterized mauser. Swift optics pretty budget for the times. Value may be in the quality of the barrel. Check the action, mounting, and scope ring screws to make sure they're all snug. Clean the bore and get a box of ammo in the 55gr range. See if it's a shooter. Save the brass.

I respectfully disagree on your $400 assessment, I’d put a $650 value on it. I’ve got a couple of Mausers one of which was professionally built in 257 Roberts. That 22-250 priced at a gun shop would be more than $400 considerably.

That’s good information for the OP.

It is helpful, thanks to all. Still trying to figure out what the AP4000 serial number and prefix mean. Any help with identifying the year, etc would be great, my searches are not bringing any clarity.
