You said it, once it's chopped it's chopped and it ain't ever going to be worth what you paid or grow in any value from that moment on. If you decide to chop it you can always use it as a Light John Boat Anchor later. LOL LOL. Seriously.

So is there a way to chop Old Bottom shelf shotguns? If I was going to chop an Old Shotgun of dubious quality I'd probably have the shortened barrel (s) threaded to accept modern screw in chokes. That way I could interchange between skeet 1 & 2 and IC, Mod, Full, X-Full dependent on the current usage. At least that would make it more usable rather than just defiled? JMHO.

Don’t cut it. You will get a lot more use out of it the way it is unless you want to have chokes installed. You hunt, right? Cylinder bore is good for quail you almost stepped on and midnight intruders.
I have a soft spot for those off brand shotguns. Farmers guns.

I know it is your's and you can do what you wish , but I would find a P.O.S. double and cut it down. Whatever you do enjoy it and be safe.

I also have one from 1964 looks as good now as it did 57 years ago.
This one is not pristine or collectable,( some do, and are) bings, whacks and crunches perfect for me and the great outdoors. Kayak, atv, boat, river crossing, swamp muck etc.
100% mechanical condition though. Savage/Stevens NO longer builds a sxs, btw. Shame. Don't know what Amercian company does anymore.

Which trigger to pull to fire which bbl is not something you need to ponder when the time comes fer shootin'.
Guess your not old yet though.
Still looking to get a Stoeger Condor YOUTH,20ga O/U. Wish someone had one here. Would pay new price for a gently used (95%+) gun. ---- SAWMAN
