20 ga Mossberg Maverick (or any model) vs 870. Looking at 20 ga for the grandkids. Thoughts? Price? Other makes/models. Looking for affordable vs other considerations. Thanks.

My 870 is substantially heavier than my Mossberg 88. I would recommend the Mossberg youth in 20 ga. Wife loves hers. I put a sling and a light on it for her. Light, functional, I like it myself.

I have a Remington 80 Tactical and have had (2) Mossberg model 500 for years. That being said my old worn Winchester model 1200 in 20 ga is my favorite! I would also recommend the Winchester 1300 as a very slick option. Good luck!

I like the mossy safety on top of receiver but my youngest is named Remington so I'm biased. Remington ain't what they used to be and the 88s are nice priced tho. As far as entry level, mossberg is tough to beat.

Have had both mossbergs and remingtons, and now just my ol' 870. Reason; mossbergs single locking lug would occassionally fail when shooting slugs/buckshot. Never had that happen with a remington. Maybe mossberg fixed that, but I've yet to be convinced to give 'em another chance. Trust once lost...
