My first reaction was “Shoot it down. This is ridiculous.”
But what if it does contain a nuclear bomb or biological weapons?
I don’t understand how it was allowed in our airspace. Surely they saw it coming from a long way off.

Just have the appropriate naval assets ready at the east coast where it will exit our airspace. Send up pick-a-fighter/drone to have a nice “guns” solution to pop that balloon. Let it fall. Recover it from the sea.
If nothing else, it’s good training.
Next time, blow the damn thing out of the sky when it breaks our airspace on the way IN.
Of course, with this no-spine puppet regime, I’m surprised they didn’t offer the balloon asylum, money, and a “pathway to citizenship” for breaking in...

They wouldn't likely do that with the first one. This would be only to gauge our reaction for future attempts, and to desensitize us to the presence of them. "Oh, don't worry. It's just another one of tho... KAPOWEEEE!" : )

FAA has closed the air space north and south of Charleston to Wilmington for military reasons. Look like they may shoot the ballon down when it get over water

We have to recognize an opportunity when it present itself. Bring the balloon down carefully. Clone every piece of electronics in it. Offer PRC a trade for something we want. There must be Americans over there in forced labor camps. Their tactics being used on them will drive them nuts.

Listening to everyone opine, mine is it's recon for the impending offensive attack. It absolutely should be taken down, examined and with ignorance removed, proper informed decisions made as to what recourse is warranted.
