See I have thought bout doing the sbs, but is there truly any benefit beside a little more movability and concilablity? Not trying sound like an ass hole, just truly wondering ?
Actually, for me, it was. I got my Mav from a buddy that did a lot of skeet and clay shooting along with Dove hunting. He was gonna sell it so I bought it for cheap. Thinking I was going to do more clay or skeet. Well, GOD gave me NO talents what-so-ever in doing either.

There is a difference between the 18.5" vs. 14" ( that's what she said...lol ) in weight and maneuverability. Was it worth the $200 stamp? For me it was.

Depending on what you're looking for, the Stoeger M3K is no slouch @ $650.

It's inertia-bolt, so it can't use low-recoil loads or be shot from the hip, but if you can avoid those two situations, it doesn't miss a beat. I bought mine with the short mag (4 + 1) and added an extension (9 + 1) that falls just about 1/2" short of the choke tube extension, since I didn't like the high-cap version (10 + 1) where the mag tube extends about 2" past the end of the choke tube. The fact that it uses choke tubes makes it viable for hunting as well.

Note that this is an outdoor shotgun, which doesn't bother me since I'm not keen on using a shotgun indoors, anyway... only problem being, with the 24" barrel, it can be a little tricky to get out the door : )

I actually have a RMR rib-mount enroute (link below) and will be adding a Viridian RFX 35 at the end of the week. It is drilled and tapped for a receiver rail, but I need my optic further away than that, so it will go 6 - 8" forward of the receiver, at the open arch between the sling and light cord.

Last two slugs I shot, @ 40 yds. from a bench, using the Bulldot laser, were just over 1" from dead-center (and I'm not even done tweaking the laser yet) and made one figure-8 hole. But it confirmed how difficult the laser can be to see in daylight, leading to my prioritizing getting the Viridian on, which was long-planned anyway : )

The Wing Masters and the Police have a better trigger group than the standard 870s. I used an XS front bead replacement for night sight
only thing I can offer is make sure the saddle doesn't cover the ser #. The 20ga 870 I picked up recently cover it so it had to go.

Taught the 870 for 20 yrs and barring stupidity or parts breaking they are bullet proof and always function. More than fast enough and use whatever 2 3/4 or3 inch ammo you want, still work.
That being said, my personal Mossberg 500 is my favorite, best safety placement and lightweight (relative) with side saddle, sling, and ghost ring sights

Mossberg 590A1 Blackwater, tritium sights, side saddle, solid wood butt Stock, Biothane sling, and M9 Bayonet. The 590 Mariner in a Cruiser configuration with tritium bead and a side saddle works well in tight wet spaces. The top mounted safety is much easier to operate with gloves or numbed fingers. As already mentioned you can feed a pump everything without fail.

Didn't we discuss shooting Water Heaters with shotgun slugs during the powerful handgun thread? 50 gal or 80 gal, a 12 guage slug makes short work of it. Can ruin someone hiding behind the water heaters day also. Guess that's a Tactical use?

Having worked on most or shot most every thing out there, for over 50 yrs, I buy or use what I have seen hold up, will work when I need it to, and can get parts to keep it going, and easy to replace , use a 1100 Rem for bird hunting, but a Rem 870 for every thing else, I have put hundreds of rds. through mine I got three, set up. It can set in the corner for yrs and will work when you need it. Have had this happen , Set up up with a side saddle cut barrel to 18 1/2 or 20 in, vent rib , Then learn to use it, in the dark.. The problem with Auto needs for care can't depend on it , plus ammo problems, the 870 is not ammo problems. This just for starters plus starters . Just my 50 cents jj
Can’t beat the 870 and has a steel receiver! I’ve also had mossberg 500’s for 50 plus years and has never failed me and has so many rounds though it also! I like autos but as mentioned, would not use for personal defense!

my Beretta 1301 Tactical is the best gun purchase made in at least 10 years. over 1k through it now. hi or low brass, birdshot from 9-4, 0000, 000, 00, slugs and crap reloads... all function fine. added a GG&G side saddle, Eotech EXPS and it came with the Mesa Urbino pistol grip stock. its faster than the Benelli M4 by 36% too. its the best semi-auto shotgun i have EVER owned, and i've owned a bunch!

Glad your happy with your purchase G-rat. But a little time spent researching military trench brooms, and Tactical Training both Military & Civilian (LEO) may suggest that pump shotguns have just as fast a cyclic rate and an even better reliability over the entire projectile spectrum. But I understand that the average user can't match geniuses records. But a tactical shotgun that holds the speed record in the average users hands won't reach such lofty heights. JMHO YMMV.
