That nut has been loose on occasion for sure. LOL!!!

Some of it could have been an ignorant youth as well.

Whatever the problem was...I do wish I had that 686 back. :)

    Thanks for the memory!
Used money that friends and relatives gave me for Graduation present in 1971 to buy a Ruger Standard Automatic at the Walmart at Davis Hwy and Brent Lane.

Convincing Dad to sign for the pistol was tough but he finally broke down agreed to sign for it.
    Only $47.00 plus tax!!!!
What a joy to shoot it was.

Back then, to get another gun, I had to sell what I had to “fund” another. Sound familiar here?
Well, I liked it so much I just had to have a Mark 1 target with the 6 7/8” barrel.
SO,,,,,,,at the job I was working at, I took a deck of cards and sold each card for $5 each for a chance at the Standard Automatic pistol.
Split the card in half and the purchaser kept 1/2 and other 1/2 went into shoe box.
Sold all the cards and had enough to buy what I wanted at Montgomery Ward in Cordova Mall back in 1978 and quite a few bricks of .22 Long Rifle along with a bunch of magazines.

Still have the Mark 1 and its not for sale

I was raised in upstate New York and it was next to impossible to get a permit for a handgun.

In 1958 I enlisted in the USAF and was stationed at Travis AFB in California. At that time you had too register a semi-automatic but not a revolver.

Took a trip to a local gun dealer and found an early Ruger standard .22 auto with the red grip medallion in like-new condition for $25.00.

In 1962 I was discharged and realized I would be an instant criminal when I returned to NY so I gave my treasured Ruger to a civilian friend at Travis AFB.

I have a MK-II std and a MK-III Target but still miss that first Ruger.

I was never allowed to have a firearm as a kid. I think my dad thought I would do all the bad stuff I later heard that he did. The first firearm I ever held was a M-16. My first handgun was a Taurus PT945 that I still have and it has served me well. Many have followed. Those of you who were taught the proper use of firearms with a parent from childhood are fortunate indeed.

So I was a mite lucky, grew up in a family of Police Officers, so I didn't want for a handgun till long after I left the roost. At 17 Uncle Sam started issuing me side arm's. But the first Pistol I ever laid down my own cash money for was in the mid 70's. Just sitting around in Hawaii without a War to take up my time I figured it was time to purchase my own pistol! Something I could call mine. So that first pistol (revolver) was a US Arms Abilene .44 Mag 7 1/2 inch barrel in stainless steel. (still got that Old Bugger) Got it's nickname "Tree Killer" cause the first shot was aimed at a mango tree in the front yard overlooking Pearl Harbor. Hit it plumb center and that poor tree fell right at the point of impact. By the time I left Hawaii it once again started to bear fruit, yet it seemed that every time I went to leave for work a mango dropped upon me. But enough reminiscing. What was the first pistol Y'all bought, and do you still have it today?

As for gunporn: I'll break out the Old Cell and take a photo if need be, but hear is a photo till then.
Ruger security six stainless. Long gone. But a good shooter.

I was 15....living in Louisiana, creek out back downstream from a baseball/softball field. A Beretta Model 70S presented itself and the rest is .22 heaven! It is still my favorite gun.

I "think" my first, or one of my first was an original Belgium Browning .22 LR Challenger with I think a four inch barrel. I loved that gun. Like a stupid fool I sold it.

Colt Peacekeeper .357. This was basically the Trooper, but it was parkerised(SP?) due to a strike by metal polishers back in the 80's. Very accurate and smooth, but I never could get with the pull vs push cylinder release. Traded it to a forum member as I transitioned to .44 mag only. Pic below not mine, but what's a post without a pic?
