So I was a mite lucky, grew up in a family of Police Officers, so I didn't want for a handgun till long after I left the roost. At 17 Uncle Sam started issuing me side arm's. But the first Pistol I ever laid down my own cash money for was in the mid 70's. Just sitting around in Hawaii without a War to take up my time I figured it was time to purchase my own pistol! Something I could call mine. So that first pistol (revolver) was a US Arms Abilene .44 Mag 7 1/2 inch barrel in stainless steel. (still got that Old Bugger) Got it's nickname "Tree Killer" cause the first shot was aimed at a mango tree in the front yard overlooking Pearl Harbor. Hit it plumb center and that poor tree fell right at the point of impact. By the time I left Hawaii it once again started to bear fruit, yet it seemed that every time I went to leave for work a mango dropped upon me. But enough reminiscing. What was the first pistol Y'all bought, and do you still have it today?

As for gunporn: I'll break out the Old Cell and take a photo if need be, but hear is a photo till then.

I got a couple bought for me as a young man by my father, but the first handgun I ever purchased myself was a S&W model 36 chiefs special. I still own it to this day. I still have the original box, paperwork, cleaning kit and sight tool that came with it as well. I will pull it out of the safe and post a picture.

If Y'all are uncomfortable, or if it's to much trouble, there is no need to post gunporn. But some of the folks on the forum may have other opinions, like if it ain't pictured on the internet it ain't real. Even been on a few forums that won't believe unless "YOUR INTERNET SCREEN NAME" ain't posted with the photo. (Shameful if you ask me) But it seems to me that if you still own it, then it's important enough to you. JMHO.

My first was a Ruger Buntline Special 22/22magnum with a 9 inch barrel, I was 16 when I bought it. The person that I sold it to has passed on but I think his son still has it. That was 1969 . I knew that you had to have a license to carry even back then so I went to the sheriffs office to get one the sheriff said I had to be 21 I told him about the pistol and that I would be carrying it so he said give me $5.00 and he issued me one.

Wife called me one day while I was at work about 20 years ago, wanted to know if I wanted to buy gun? I said it was a very strong possibility, I needed more details. She put her co-worker on the phone that had a Blackhawk .357 Mag he wanted to sell for $160. I bought the gun.

I guess that was the beginning....

Mine was a 4" Colt Python with factory combat grips. In Culifornialibdemturdistan in the early 90s it was all about the Glock 17 and Beretta 92s. Found it in a pawn shop across from the biggest gun shop in San Leandro. no box but those grips were to die for... paid a whopping $375 for that beast. Friggin' divorce sale got that one. I'll never forgive that devil woman!

I lived in CA's central valley from spring of '91 through summer '93.

During a break in training in Calif,we were invited to hunt hogs on Ft. Hunter Liggett in the southern part of the state.
    I purchased a Ruger Blackhawk (3 screw) chambered in 41Rem Mag. (4 5/8" bbl)
It is similar to the gun in the top of this pic.
Sold it years ago but finally found one in the "New Model Blackhawk".
The other revo is a 6.5" model. --- SAWMAN

Bought mine in the early 90s while I was in the Navy. It's a Ruger P85 MKii. It's the first gun my kids ever shot and it's my go to SHTF gun. All metal design so it's a multipurpose gun. You can shoot, bludgeon, hammer nails in, and curl it as a workout.

True enough! I had a P89 Law and it was reliable, heavy, accurate enough and built like a tank!

Smith & Wesson 39-2 polished Nickel. Still own it. Went to Smith semi auto school and it has an excellent trigger.

Dan Wesson .357 with 4" barrel. Adj sights, and could had the changeable barrel, bought in Hawaii when I turned 21. Super accurate pistol that I ended up trading off for an AMT Hardballer that was the first 1911 I ever owned, but not the last! LOL

My first handgun was a S&W 686 Combat Magnum....unfortunately the ignorance of my youth let it get away from me. :(

Hope you don't mind, perhaps it was the nut behind the butt that couldn't handle the smooth trigger pull of the S&W. But sight radius does have a bit to do with overall accuracy. One mans trash is another mans GOLD.
