Well back to work after taking a day to finish the broken boat trailer after failing on Friday. Went to pick up boat and put it in the water praying the one axle would hold after the first broke and no luck. Second axle broke stranding the boat and trailer on the side of Highway 98 between Navarre and Mary Esther. If you saw a blue center console on the side of the road along 98 that was mine! I worked to get it to a safer spot along the road over the weekend and me and good friend of mine replaced both axles on Monday with traffic on 98 flying by us within feet of us. It's amazing how many people won't move over when they see caution cones and emergency flashers. Feels good to have it off the highway and back in it's storage location with 2 new axles.

Anybody here know a lot about wifi extenders/amps? I've done everything I can to get a strong connection and speed all over my house including a hard wired repeater downstairs. Problem is I no longer have a reliable connection out to my shop. Distance is only about 60'. I'm assuming part of the problem is the construction of both house and shop. I'm looking on line at options but would rather have input from locals. I had an older Netgear range extender out there but apparently it was out of date. Signal strength was great using it but it bottlenecked the speed way way down.

Glad you got it fixed and to a safe place, wish you had called for help, I could have at least setup a machinegun nest to move the traffic over!

Frank, thanks for the offer but had a buddy who is a self employed Marine Mechanic helping me. Thanks to his help and his marine business tools we managed to remove all the old rusted parts and get the new axles on in about 5 hours of actual work time from setup to clean up!

Try a power line extender like this:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/netgear...Z8-mOvK1zJM8Br8Gf2SAUlQvWGrLSRnDbrxoCIiLw_wcB
one end plugs into a outlet near your router in the house and you plug that into the router with a Ethernet cable, assuming you're running power to your shop off of your house you can plug the other receiver in your shop and pair them together and them plug whatever device into it with another Ethernet cable or get a wireless version.
we use them all the time when we are unable to physically or cleanly run a cat5 cable to the router and have never had issues with lagging.
Walmart carries them as wel, I would buy from a big local store just in case it doesn't fit your needs, easier returns if need be.

Thank you sir. I'm not sure that will work but looks like there may be something else in that line of products that will.

What I'm wondering is how this would work through my electrical system. My shop is powered through a 125 amp breaker at the outside box and then direct burial cable out to the shop. Also, this unit you referenced appears to need the ether net cable hooked to the device in the shop. I need wireless in there. Ill study it closer tonight but looks like you're on the right track and that Netgear has a product that will work.

When I bought my last router I was told the cheaper they are the less distance you get. Sure enough the value priced ones are rated for shorter distances than the more expensive that have a longer range. There is a rating on the box for you to go by. Just a thought you might want to check out

Most of the modules will give you LED signals that will let you know what speeds it can achieve or if any at all. Ive only ever used them in houses so have never had a drop significant enough to notice. Hence my sentence stating to get it local so it it doesn't work out there you can just return it easily.
Technically you could plug another router into it in your shop and run off that wifi signal. Not really the way I would suggest, I'm sure they make a model with a WiFi receiver instead of Ethernet only.

My main router is the latest one from Brighthouse. I had to scream at them to get it. Then, they put an Echo system in downstairs which is another router that is fed through a seperate coax line from the one upstairs. It works like a charm as downstairs and outside seem to have great strength and speed but trying to pick up either the main router upstairs or the Echo that's downstairs in my shop is iffy. It works sometimes. Ive tried moving both the upstairs and downstairs systems around to get a straighter shot into my shop. I maximized what's available but I just need something more reliable. I don't do much surfing out there but I want to listen to all my music options. I get a lot of buffering at times.

The concrete guy is about to tear up my side yard for a slab extension. I may go ahead and run another trench out to the shop and bury another coax line. I would rather buy something that works though.

Same person that considers Golden Corral a special occasion dinner spot.

Before you lay a bare line under the slab, suggest you go get a couple of lengths of 1" PVC and lay it so you can pull or push lines and replacements with ease, later.

Thanks Ed. Yeah, that's how I was going to do it if I end up hard wiring the system. I would rather stay wireless if possible. I'm going to call someone I know today that works at Brighthouse and see if he can come out. I'm wondering if moving the main router to the back of the house (office is in front) might give a cleaner, straighter shot to the shop building.

What puzzles me is that I used to have no issues with wifi in the shop. Then, they changed everything and now it's sporadic. I've looked at obstacles in line, the building construction of course hasn't changed and according to my wifi signal strength app the house is well covered. But, it just drops off in the shop. I put my TV on the wall closest to the house and when I'm running music off my pad I put it right in line with the downstairs router. It's frustrating.
