Nice tricked out SKS with ammo and mags and scope for $600 on the forum right now. For that low price you can afford to go get it threaded

I would look into a VZ58.
I have one and love it.
It's basically if the Czechs smashed an AK with a SKS, has NO interchangeable parts with the AK (including mags) and weighs significantly less. Has a ton of aftermarket support for parts/mods though and mags are available for $15-25 each..
I managed to get mine in like new shape for $500 in box before covid, A VZ2008 (A century made one). Never given me any issues so far and is a nice shooter. Now they run at least $800-1000 from what I see, so if you can get one for sub $800 I'd say it's a good price.
