The Gen 4 and Gen 5 have the SF-type length from back to front of grip. Beyond that, the difference is no finger grooves and the different Gen 4/Gen 5 grip texture, and additional backstraps you can add.

Both have the granulate type Talon Grip tape on them, which I've found to significantly aid me during rapid fire strings. However, it can be easily removed if desired.

I actually don't mind and kinda like the finger grooves, but there's no denying the no-finger-groove Gen 5 grip works very well and I shoot it a little better. The Gen 5 G21s have slightly less felt recoil than previous Gens. The recoil spring assembly is slightly longer. If I weren't on a H&K and revolver kick right now I'd keep them, but priorities are priorities.
