Looking for input on a Ruger American Compact in 243 or 7mm-08 for my 12 year old daughter to take Deer hunting. The Ruger is attractive due to pricing and I'm not looking to spend a fortune until I know it's not just a short term interest. Anyone have one? What are the Pros and Cons? Also considering the Remington 700 youth and the Weatherby Vanguard! Would like to know whats the better gun, or is it just a preference?

The American series by Ruger is an excellent rifle. Have a 7mm-08 that I got in a trade and is now one of my favorites. Stick with 243 for a youth rifle if possible. The 7-08 in the commonly available loadings of 140-150 gr has a pretty snappy recoil for a female shooter. My wife hated it so I wound up with it.. Just my experience.
