Noticed I was running low on my factory loads so I broke out my little kit.

Back when I bough a lever gun chambered in 444 Marlin I decided to get into reloading. Not a lot of room for a big turret press so I bought a Lee Hand Press. Works great for reloading a few at a time. I went ahead and gathered up several dies for other calibers I shoot.

    Today's loads were

    30-06
    Remington Large Rifle primers
    Hodgon Varget riffle powder
    Hornady BTSP 150 grain interlocks

loaded 20 with 50 grains of powder and 14 with 49 grains(I had 6 factory loads left in the box). Now just to get out shooting and see which load does better.

Come on guys share your favorite loads.

I make reduced power loads for my 30-06 by using 11.5 grains of blue dot magnum powder under a 123 gr fb bullet. you can target shoot all day today without the shoulder pain
tommorrow. These especially do well at 50 yds. (saves time on walking back and forth to 100 yd target)

I loaded a few the other day to try and find a good hunting load for my BAR Safari. Haven't had a chance to shoot all of them to figure out which load groups the best. I don't have any of the load data with me, but I'll try to remember to update this post when I get home and get my data in front of me.

I had always heard that automatics like BAR's didn't like reloads... let me know how that goes...

I loaded 15 different powder/bullet combinations and so far I've only shot 5 of them. My best group is about 1 1/2 inches so far. That's as good as or better than any factory load group I've ever shot with that rifle.

Check out Hodgdon's website. They make H4895 powder and have some "recipes" for reduced loads. From their info, the ones I recently loaded are supposed to kick about like a 30-30. The links below have additional info.

IIRC the last canister I bought came from Ranger Firearms in Ft. Walton Beach. Nice folks and they have a good selection of powder. I like the Varget as well but I don't remember seeing any reduced loads for the '06.

I would say around an hour from setting everything out to finishing. You are going to get more comfortable and faster once you get in a rhythm... I can do probally 20 bullets in an hour or 5 for not much less time... its the getting everything organized and pulled out of storage that takes me some time. I Did 36 or so in about 2 hours with 2 different loads. The longest time it takes me once I get going is measuring out my powder. I use a digital scale and try to keep my charges pretty much spot on

There's really no difference if the reloaded round was done according to published reloading data, except reloaded rounds usually offer better consistency from round to round.

I always figured it was just a rumor from gun shops wanting to sell more factory ammo.

I got to shoot a couple of my reloads in the 30-06 yesterday. About 1/2" different at 100yds from the Hornady Customs I was shooting. Adjusted the scope and next shots were dead on. I was in a rush so I didn't get a chance to group them but 49 grains of Varget is going to be pretty good I think.
