After years of doing hardwood floors on the side I decided to try refinishing this rocking chair for my sister to rock my soon expected nephew in. I made it match the high dollar crib and dresser, but I tried to make it look old. What do you guys think about it?

Thanks bud. I used the redneck system. What I did was used a dewalt orbital sander to take the old natural stain off of it. After using that I went over it again with 220 grit sandpaper. I then popped the grain with denatured alcohol. After that I applied 3 coats of mahogany (min wax) stain. After that I used fine #0000 steel wool to remove some of the stain. And last but not least I used 4 coats of commercial clear satin lacquer. I'm thinking about refinishing furniture on the side as I found this more enjoyable than doing floors.

Thanks man. Originally I matched the color to the hardwood floor in the baby room, but my sister being the female that she is didn't like it so I had to re sand and start over. I then matched it to the high dollar crib and dresser as she wanted and used high gloss lacquer ..... And then I decided that it was my money in materials invested and I was going to do it my way and at the same tine test out my skills that I've learned over the last 8 years or so. Out of high school I started doing hardwood floors for what is now a close friend until I started my landscaping business. I now work with him in the fall and winter to support my deer killing and wild women habit. I took what I have learned and mixed it with my own technique, and arrived at this final look. You two have given me great confidence and I thank you for that.

Yes good job, it is alot of work, sometimes I use a chain to give it a distressed look, you lightly wack it randomally with a big chain and it leaves little dings here and there and looks great once you finish it, just don't over do it. GOOD JOB, your sister should be proud.
