I am just curious why people post. p.m. sent. on a thread. Is this something that is necessary. in the past when I p.m. someone I simply sent them a personal message with the heading explaining what the PM was about

I do it personally on stuff I'm more interested in and in some cases to keep an eye on it incase it goes down in price so I can make another offer

I think a lot of folks do it to make others folks not bother looking at what’s for sale. Many times you think the person that pm the seller said they would take the item for the asking price, that’s not the case, they usually low ball the seller , thinking the seller will tie up the item while he’s communicating with them. I don’t do that, if someone else makes a full price offer then I sell it to the full price person it’s not a done deal until I agree to it. Opinions vary but that’s the way I see it.

posting ( I’ll take it ) trumps any other communication . I guess I should start posting that I reserve the right to do business with the person of my choice.

Most folks don't get a pm instantly. Sometimes it takes several minutes for mine. Even refreshing the page I will not get them. Have to leave the website and come back.
Pm sent does not put you inline for your low ball offer or trade.

The seller’s notifications settings are my reason: I’ve seen too many variations.

Sometimes a seller won’t see a PM or get a notification about it, but they Will see a response to their sale thread or get a notification about it.
    Sometimes it’s vice-versa the above.

It’s just to hedge the bet that the seller will get the message in a timely manner. For me, it has nothing to do with “dibs”.
