Cleaning out the safe and I found this guy way in the back. I bought this 38 Colt Army Special for my wife when we were still dating about 5 years ago. It was hard chromed but it was coming off pretty bad, so we had it cerakoted in the same colour. Unfortunately, Don's Gun Shop in Pensacola did a pretty lousy job with the cerakote. Great shooter though. The original grips disintegrated the first time we fired it, so we dropped some Python grips on it. Not as pretty but fits the hand well. Serial number says it was built in 1927.

Re-organizing some computer files and found this old picture taken with a crappy flip-phone of some WWII guns I used to own. At one time I had a dozen or so pistols from that era and regret that I never got them all out at once for proper a group photo.

Left to right: MAB Model D, FN Browning M1922 (1944), Mauser HSc (1943), Astra 300 (1943), CZ 27, Sauer 38H

new models started with 81-00001 in 1973...this one is about 6K from the start
in the pic you can see the marks on the cylinder, the base pin is tight and there isn't a mark I can find on the frame top strap
I doubt there has been a box fired through it.

I've wanted one of these for some time and finally took the plunge. S&W Performance Center Model 952-2. All 952s are scarce, but the 6" version is even scarcer. For those unfamiliar, this is a precision single action 9mm target pistol. They were produced during a time (this one is from 2006) when I had little time for guns and shooting, and I didn't even know they existed until after they were discontinued.

Granddad brought it back. Was given to dad and I inherited it with his passing.
That makes it totally different! Not an investment, at all, because you will never see any money for it. I'd definitely get it appraised though, just for insurance purposes. I got my grandpa's Remington Auto5 clone. Very cool connection to the past. Years ago I bought my first Nagant revolver, a WW2 bring back out of the estate of a Russian immigrant. There was not a lick of bluing left on it, and I sold it when the arsenal rebuilt Nagant revolvers became cheap and readily available, thinking I would get a rebuilt with good bluing and "new" grips and original accessories. Big mistake! I went thru several rebuilt $100 Nagant revolvers before giving up trying to find one that was as slick and smooth to operate as that bring back! The old man who treasured it and brought it to America knew what he had

The original grips were a little too generic, so I dressed it up a little with wood grips.
