If its not too late, check out the 6.5 Grendel.

It is the best AR15 round out there right now (in my opinion of course)
You get the same distance capabilities as a .308w and she wouldn't have to hawl around an AR10.
I have killed several deer with my 6.5Grendel. I have even dropped deer out to 500yds.

I have had 3 different AR10s and they work great but they do kick.
    I now have 2 AR15 Grendels for deer hunting, a 20" and a 16" for my wife.

Well I haven't reloaded for my Grendel yet, but I do plan on it...

I have been using Hornady's A-Max 123gr match ammo, I've been able to find the ammo in most of the gunshops around here for around $21.
I have been able to find it online for a little more than $18 per 20

The reason why I haven't reloaded for it yet is because Hornady's ammo is so dang accurate.. Every shot will typically touch at 100yds.
Wolf also makes great ammo for Grendel (believe it or not)

I agree with the 6.5 Grendel. I just got mine a few months ago so haven't shot a deer with it but have killed some hogs !!! Farmer who has the ammo in stock? I have only had luck ordering it off line.

Styx River shooting center in Robertsdale Alabama. I-10 to Wilcox exit 53
Ubers Lock and Gun on Fairfield
And I believe Jays Gun on Pace and 98 had some of the Wolf tactical 129gr stay away from the soft points

My preference is the 6.8, little recoil, reasonable ammo cost...going to get even better w tula and federal getting in the game...80% of the killing power of a .308. A 16" barrel is optimal on the 6.8, it was built for that, you can free float or not, a Stag complete upper is $474, same lowers for a .223 to 50 BeoWulf, so get a great lower, good trigger and pin the upper of your choice on it, Poly Lower complete $106, or metal $300
I wouldn't use Tula ammo in anything. Even if someone gave me a thousand rounds for free.

After reading the past 5 pages I guess I'm the Odd Ball. I decided to go with the 300AAC Blackout for my Hunting AR. Using the Barnes Blacktips it's the same performance of a 30-30 (My Previous hunting gun of Choice). I liked the fact I didn't have to buy diffrent Mag's for it uses .223/5.56 mags. Plus ammo costs were lower (~$11 a box for target ammo, and $35 a box for the Barnes Blacktips) Since I VERY rarely have a shot past 200Yrds it fit my needs.
