Navy boot camp graduation in 1 hour

Up in Chicago to see my boy graduate from Navy Boot Camp!
A long way and a lot of money, but hey, he'll only do it once. Stays here for another 7 weeks for "A" school. Then "back (near) home" to Panama City for diver training. That'll be nice because we'll be able to see him once in a while.

Thanks, that's awesome of you to offer. He's a hard worker! He made two stripes in boot camp, and his div was entered into Navy Hall of Fame.
He's 23, very devoted, and already a certified commercial diver through CDA of Jacksonville ($32k), but don't hold that against him!

Thanks guys, yes, very proud dad! I'm retired USAF, still working with USAF, but he was never interested in USAF. Always a Navy kid like his Grandpa (gunner on the battleship NJ) and his uncle (B.U.D.S. Diver). SCUBA certified at 12 years old and never looked back!
His a great guy; a leader. I'll miss him when he moves on, but as a dad I wish him the very best in life. ;-)

We won't hurt him too bad down here. Just some thrashing him around on the bottom of the 40' pool here! What's his last name so I can keep an eye out for him on the rosters here. Hell I might even have to do his medical evaluation here!

Terrible news today for my son...

He washed out for not being able to tread water with the 25 lb weight. He's been very concerned about it since before he even left for boot camp, and I guess for good reason. He's devastated, and so are we as his parents. It's hard to see your kids' dreams leave their grasp.

As he understands it, he could wash back a week and try again, but if he fails that's it -- can never reapply for Diver. If he accepts the washout, then he can apply in two years. I hope he's getting good info...

Do you guys know? (Hopefully you're subscribed to this thread)
