If you ever wanted to undertake an SBR project -- this is quite affordable (as NFA items go). My entire budget required for the project was $565 -- including the $200 tax stamp. The result is a piece of WWII era history -- firing the powerful 7.62x25mm Tokarev cartridge.
The PPS-43 was first introduced in 1943 as a submachinegun for use by Tank crews and paratroopers. It is still in use in some areas of the world. The Radom arms factory in Poland manufactures a semi-automatic version for importation into the US as the PPS-43C. It fires from a closed bolt (rather than open bolt like its full-auto cousin), and the folding stock is permanently folded so that it is sold legally as a pistol in the US.
Converting the PPS-43C to an SBR with a fully operational folding stock is quite simple, and can be accomplished with common hand tools. A "parts" kit from someone like Sportsman's Guide is required to provide some of the parts needed to complete the folding stock mechanism - and it provides an extra magazine and a few other goodies.
Here's an outline of my "budget" for this build:
Brand New Radom PPS-43C from Classic Firearms = $270 (they are currently selling for $339 but include 4 magazines instead of 1 as when I bought mine)
PPS-43C "Shooter's Package" (not required for the project - but provided a Bulldog case, 3 additional magazines, sling, and magazine pouch) = $60
Transfer via Little Jack's Guns = $15
PPS-43 Parts kit from Sportsman's Guide = $80
NFA Tax Stamp = $200
Total Budget = $625 ($565 without the "Shooter's Package")

If you decide that this project is for you -- I'd be happy to help you work through the conversion process. It appears that Classic Firearms has the last batch of these to be imported. When they are gone -- there won't be any more imported. Act soon if you want one!
I'll plan to bring this to the next NFA/Suppressor shoot scheduled forthe GCGF.
