My buddy needs to have his gun safe moved, I think its about 950 pounds, anyone have any suggestions or experience? I've moved 600 pounders, without too much trouble, but I think this might need professional help.

Locksmiths also usually have the equipment to move large safes.

If that fails just get me a case of sugar free red bull and ill do it.

2 Men and a Truck can move anything.

And break, scratch, or maim it as well. Used them last year when we moved and can't recommend. They were young, seemingly inexperienced, and had an attitude like they were put out because of stairs.

Hey I hate moving crap up and down stairs as well but it's not my chosen line of work. They were not professional at all and I was not happy with the way they treated our furniture.

That's just one experience and maybe I got the screw-up crew however.

Moving pianos is a completely different ball game. I've seen an elderly blind man and his wife move a piano. That's all about technique. Safe moving is about strength and equipment.

What kind of safe did he buy ? I bought a Liberty Franklin 35 a year or so ago. I called around to movers and as soon as they heard "800 lbs" they weren't interested.
There is one company, Gilmore Services, that Mike's Gun Shop uses . I called them and they said it would be around $450, more if stairs are involved. And they didn't know the safe was way out Gulf Beach Hwy.
I got my son, son-in-law and a friend from work and we moved it ourselves. I used a heavy-duty hand cart. It took a few minutes to get used to balancing it but wasn't bad. I took the tailgate off my 5x8 traier and laid some thick quilts on it.
Then just backed it up and laid it down. Worked great. It could be done with 3 people, maybe even two.

I also used Pensacola Lock and Safe to move the 1800lb fort knox safe into the house. They did a awesome job. I think it was around 200. From the Garage to a room one step up. It was included in my safe price... But around 200.
