I knew a few folks who worked on the early implosion weapons and participated in the atmospheric test series; some of my bosses worked on the Mk 6 Mod 6, the last version of the Fat Man type system (highly improved electronics and fusing), which was retired in 1962.

If anyone is interested you can go out and see the original Trinity atom bomb test sight. It is open for a tour 2 times a year.

They also have a wonderful missile museum out there at White Sands that is fantastic to visit. They have alot of Atom bomb displays in there.

Well worth the drive to New Mexico on its own.
