I am coming to you guys for help now and would really appreciate some info. I purchased 2 Russian Baikals last week for about $480. They came with 2 holsters and 3 mags. One of them is a little rough and I have plans to strip it down one of these days to get it refinished. The other one looks great but it has one problem. The little stud on the safety busted off after I put it back together. I have been looking around for online deals for a replacement and the prices range from $19 to $34. My question: Will a East German or a Bulgarian safety work in a Russian Makarov? I know that they are all pretty much the same pistol with minor variations, but I don't want to drop money on this part if it doesn't work.
I am going to post some pictures later when I can find my camera. I have been looking at getting some Maks for a while as ccw for me and the wife. I just happened to come across this guy selling 2 w/mags, holsters, and 100 rounds of ammo. His asking price was $600, we agreed on $500. I think I got a good deal. What do you guys think? He didn't know that half of the ammo was 9mm Para so I sold that to a friend for $20. I was even more excited when I realized that they had consecutive serial numbers from the importer. This may not be a rare occurrence, but I still think its pretty cool. The guy said his dad bought them new in '95 and they sat in a closet ever since, never fired. Unfortunately one of them was kept in the leather holster and there is some rust on the slide, but all the internals are good. I am in the process of removing as much rust as possible.
Again, I come to you guys for help. Anything you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

Awesome! Thanks for the help. Too bad the ones without the spring are out of stock. I believe the spring in my old one is still good. Oh well. Thanks for the lead. Once I get it fixed I will post some pics so you guys can see them in all their glory.

Check out Gunboards at http://forums.gunboards.com/. Mak forum is toward the bottom along with a trader section (parts). Lot of experts there. Also check out Denis Marschals grips (google name) if you want a pretty gun. Decent price on your pair.

Thanks for the help. I ordered my part off of the Numrich site. Should be here in a couple of days. Once I get it installed I'll take it out for a test run and give you guys a range report with some photos thrown in.

Not sure if you can see it but that little speck next to the safety is what broke on the safety. I got the new one the other day and installed it but I ran into the problem that it was very difficult to use the safety. I had to use 2 hands and really put pressure on it. Obviously not ideal. I was going to look at how to maybe file something down to see if that would make it smoother when I remember that I had another safety. I switched the safeties around and viola. Worked like a charm. 20151107_163933.jpg Makarov (6).jpg Makarov (4).jpg Makarov (9).jpg Makarov (1).jpg

You can see the one has some rust issues on the slide. The 2 holsters that came with them, well, they are nothing special. One looks authentic and the other one obviously not. Now my last question is this. The last picture is 3 different types of Makarov rounds. The silver one I know is an aluminum casing. The other ones I am not sure. But, both of them are magnetic. Primer base, bullet, the whole shebang. They look like normal rounds. The markings on the bottom are English.
I am sorry for the poor quality of the pictures. My cameral crapped the bed on me so I had to use the phone.
