I’ve been a club President of three different clubs, this club I’m over now I started it from scratch 22 years ago , it’s been paying off well last few years , hope we have big success for the upcoming 2021-22 season, here’s a few pics from last two or three years, I’ve got good genetics for Deep South Alabama, but with this sandy soil and pine thickets I believe my deer herd has reached its full potential

    Few more pics….
It’s not rocket science, just have to rule with an iron fist and cull members that don’t follow rules. One of the best things I ever implemented was to have doe sanctuary’s on the club, what this means is that certain areas and plots on the club are off limits to does, no member or even a child are allowed to take a doe in specified areas, it brought the deer herd numbers up dramatically. So these areas are swarming with does and little ones now and when someone wants to bring a child to see deer they will see several, it thrills children to see deer and we as hunters have got to pass this hunting and firearm training down to the next generations. We have lots of rules but good members that abide by them, once in a while I’ll take on a new member that thinks rules don’t apply to him and he thinks he can do as he pleases, but I’ll put him on the road immediately without a refund. In the past 21 years I’ve had to do this maybe 5 times. You can’t have a good club with out rules and respect, long time members are an asset an I’ve been blessed to have good members and it pays big dividends for us as you can see in the pics

One other thing we do is predator control, coyotes and bobcats have to go, the coyotes feed on the young deer and rabbits, we love to shoot rabbits after deer season on the plots, they are good barbecued on the grill, yum yum. And the bobcats are a menace to the turkeys and the bunny rabbits so when I’m deer hunting and a yote or a cat presents a shot I’m taking it! One afternoon I did something I’ve never done before, 3 bobcats came out within a span of 5 minutes to chase the cottontails on the plot I was deer hunting on, had my 223 Thompson Contender just for a cat that evening as I always shoot one there off and on, popped all 3 of them . And I’ve got one member that traps coyotes in the spring and summer.

Best money I ever spent , used it two deer seasons now. You can easily fetch a deer with it and even float him across a beaver pond or a creek with ease. Was laughed at by other members when I ordered it for the 2019-2020 season but laughed at no more, have other members now that use a sled too. And it’s also handy for taking corn to feeders, moving feeders to locations in the woods, moving stands, and I use it a lot at the house picking up sticks in the yard. I’ll have to post some pics of the rack I built and welded up to fit my Isuzu Trooper, I made a hinged tailgate on one side of the rack so when I drag the sled up to the rack I can open the gate end and drag heavy deer and sled up on my rack, no lifting.

We have similar rules now. Nothing smaller than a 6pt 2 bucks. 2 does. You get the stink eye when you take a doe. I'm the only one to actively hunt the yotes and I'm a noob at it. We shoot, bobcats, feral cats and the occasional dog that we see. In the eve it sounds like 100 yotes are out there. I wanted to go this eve/tonight but had 2 teeth yanked today. Sux.

I started Club on day one with a 6 point rule with $100 fine for any screw ups years ago, allow 3 does per membership with $100 fine on any doe shot weighing less than 75 lbs. Most guys pass on the 6’s and only a few guys will claim their 3 doe limit. I won’t shoot a doe unless she weighs 90+ lbs, some folks say well how do you know what one weighs? When you have hunted them for 45 years and been weighing every deer killed for the last 30 years then you’re pretty much spot on when sizing one up. We have friendly wagers at our scales when someone is weighing a deer before leaving the club, I’m usually pretty close in my estimation of the deers weight before we see the digital read out on the scale. Electronic digital scales are the way to go….

Yeah, we have an Oops buck rule only one then $100 for every point under 6 fir any after that.

Estimate? My only deer last year. Last day, 15mins to go. Damm 308 hits so hard the deer flipped and the horns broke off..... that's why you should not use battle rifles for hunting!

With acorns falling like rain here and legalization of corn now, we have not planted plots yet, got them all bush hogged and disc up, planting them on Oct 30th. I don’t bow hunt , used to about 35 years ago. Hand gun hunt up until the rut starts then pick up a rifle, but I will carry a rifle early in season if I set on power line right of way. At 200 yards I’m comfortable shooting my Encore pistol in 7mm-08 using a sand bag and have killed deer at 160 yds with it , on plots or in the woods I carry a Thompson Contender in 35 REM or a Ruger Super Blackhawk with 10” barrel in 44 mag, I bought a Thompson Contender in 357 Maximum earlier this year but haven’t even shot it yet, got one Contender in 7-30 Waters too and then there’s my predator hunting pistol in a Thompson Contender 223
