The 58s are good guns. Keep the gas operating area carbon free and they run forever. When I was growing up everyone wanted a 16 ga. shotgun. Now not so much for whatever reason. Ammo selection is not as good as 12 or 20 but is readily available at bigger stores or online.
If I remember correctly these were plain guns that cost a little less. they lacked the frills and thrills. These were meant to be used in the field not to sit in a gun safe with all the "purty" guns.
The Model 58 did not become the 1158. For a short time there was was a 878 Automaster that came after the 58 and then the 1100 came in 1963. The model 48 became the 11-48 I have several of these in 16 gauge but the Automaster only came in 12 gauge.
