I appreciate the link. I totally get the concept as I install solid rivets as part of my job; I need this installed for way less than the cost of the tool and I think a gunsmith is just better equipped. I hope this the last time this has to be done.
I have replaced a few 1911 tenon style sight. Remove the old one by wiggling the old sight with some vice grips. Use a dremel inside the slide if needed. Tape up around the slide with masking tape to prevent sratches. Then after inserting the new sight, I use a open end wrench, one side sts on the tenon and the theroutside the slide. Hit it with a hammer until crushed. Sometimes I add a little red loctite.
Thanks Champ 62 amd Az-Vic. I would like to get the dovetail cut in. Have to check prices. Yesterday called local gunsmith to install a tenon-style sight and the cost was prohibitive. I already have the sight. I know he has bills, but I don't need to pay them all at once for him. I'll do it myself if necessary. I can screw up 10 sights for the cost he quoted.
