The other day I forgot the combination for my safe. I don’t mean the numbers that open the door. I have all my long guns in socks so I pack them in pretty tight. I took most of them out looking for some magazines and when I put them back in, I wound up with a shotgun that I could not fit. Maybe tomorrow I will play Tetris a while and try to figure out the combo

I feel your pain. I forgot mine last week and was about to panic, then my wife told me where I hid the combination. She's my hero!

Sounds like you need another safe...all the more reason to buy more guns too...empty safes just don't look right...

Mine wouldn't open with keypad last night. I guess I entered it too many times and now an alarm won't stop going off. Unhooked the battery and let it sit, but it starts screaming again as soon as I hook up the battery.

That means the thermite lining went off - destroying everything inside.

I have a special in-thermiter that can possibly save one or two of your firearms.

It is important that you follow these instructions!
    1. Do not attempt to open, this will make it worse
    2. Give me the keys and the combos
    3. I will have the safe moved to the internet-thermiter
    4. I will use unthermiter to try and save your firearms.
    5. Any repaired firearms will be returned to you, bit the safe and ruined weapons will need to stay as the process is toxic and they need to be properly disposed of.

PM me and I will arrange the transport.

Could the alarm mean that the battery is getting weak? I didn't know they had alarms. All the safe's I've ever had was combos. Please post what caused the alarm and the fix as someday I would like to get a safe with a keypad.

I wanted to open a safe one evening several years ago and found myself staring at the dial with no idea of the combination. I tried everything I could think of and went to bed with visions of lock smiths, cutting, etc. A short while later I remembered the combination, got up and opened it...it was an odd experience.

I’ve had that blank moment a few times when I wanted to open a safe but it’s always come back to me. I have a master key angle grinder if worst comes to worst though I guess.

Edit: I completely misunderstood the OP

    Doh!

For the OP, I’ve sketched out on a small piece of paper how certain things are best “loaded”: trailers, foot lockers, and safes. Leaves no digital footprint, and is easy to store.

For the folks who forget combos, or passwords, SSN, birthdays, etc, there is a similar solution: write it down.
Recommendation: write it in one spiral-bound pocket notebook, and do it encoded if it makes you feel better.
Example: Give the safe a name, and write the combo like a phone number. Hank 850-412-3456 (combo 12-34-56)
Make an entry in your phone with the safes’s ”phone number”, and then store the spiral notebook in the safe.

Part of your hurricane evac plan is to bring that spiral notebook with you in your “go” bag that never leaves your sight.

    Done.

Changed the battery. Same deal. I entered the correct code as I do every day and it wouldn't open. Entered it about 10 times then the alarm. I hope it was just a glitch. It's been 12hrs. Maybe it has a reset. If the alarm is still buzzing I'm going to beat it with a hammer.

Or take a picture of the combination card that comes with your safe and store it on your phone (if an iPhone, in notes).
I think this is better than writing it down, but that’s my opinion. On your phone it’s safe, secure, backed up.
Can take pics of other important docs too. Food for thought.

I've never owned one. What is wrong with electronic locks on a safe?
Read the above. The problems that the OP is having don't happen with a manual combination lock.

Behind some electronic key pads they have a key that opens it.

I’ve done that, too. For the combos to the safes. Encoded.
    Same for WiFi passwords, etc.

The problem, coming soon to a SpyPhone near you, is the fact that your photos may soon no longer be “private”. Not talking about 3-letter agency under-the-table stuff, either. It’s public knowledge next iOS update ”for the children” scanning of photos. Just the “cloud”... for now. “Kiddie porn only”... for now.

But that’s not applicable to this thread.

A more tangible problem to storing important info ”only” on your phone, is if you Lose your phone, or it gets wet or otherwise suffers an “untimely demise”. Sure you can rely on a back-up from a computer...

Pros and cons to every choice.

2 is 1, and 1 is none, and all that.

This is true. I didn't know that the problem that the OP is having was a common problem with them. I have only known 1 person with a electronic lock safe and he has never had a problem with it that I am aware of. I could be wrong but the last time that I was at Mikes gun shop (under normal conditions, pre-covid and well stocked) it seemed like most of the safes were electronic and that's why I was wondering. One good thing is that they open faster especially in the dark if they are working properly! I will give the idea about getting one a second thought. Thanks!
