I have not read much of anything about the Extar EXP having any issues. Mine is picky and only likes the NATO 5.56 62g green tips or equivalent. I ran some cheap 223 55g when I first bought it without any problems until about 100-150 rounds. Then I started having short stroke problems. Extar says that the extra pressure (gas) from the 62g NATO rounds keeps it from short stroking. I ran 150 rounds of the 62g NATO ammo through it without any malfunctions. Then tried a magazine of 55g 223 and had five short strokes within the one magazine. I understand that this is a 5.56 pistol but I haven't read of anyone having this same problem. Extar was very quick to identify this as the problem. I'm going to continue my internet search for similar problems to see if anyone had this issue and got it to function with cheap 55g 223 ammo.

To my fellow Extar EXP owners:
    Anyone have this problem?
Anyone have any problems with their EXP?
What specific ammo are you running?
How many rounds do you have through your EXP?

    Thanks,
    BW

To my fellow Extar EXP owners:
    Anyone have this problem? Negative
Anyone have any problems with their EXP? Not at all
What specific ammo are you running? I've ran a mix of everything. Wolf, federal, Winchester, but mostly reloads
How many rounds do you have through your EXP? 400-500

I haven't noticed any leaks around the gas block. I read on the internet, so I know it's true, that one of the two screw on the bottom of the gas block is an adjustment screw? So next week I am going to read the manual again then teardown and clean. If the adjustment screw truly is such, I will open it up to see if it helps. Thanks all.

Man, you still got trouble with that thing? Come get mine and compare. Bust some rounds and tell me the difference.

It shoots the NATO 5.56 62g just fine and I'm good with it. I just want to explore my options to try to get the cheaper ammo to function thru it.

I have run approx. 4500 rounds of any type of 5.56 and .223 I could get a hold of. Only issues were ammo related. nanufacturers decects. Otherwise runs like a monkey on meth!
