I have been thinking of putting a simple pitcher pump water well on my property, and was curious if anyone has done this that could offer guidance, tips, tricks etc..
    Thanks

Do you have any idea how high the water table is in your area, Anything lower than 12 to 14 foot You are not going to have much success with a hand pump. I'm not talking about how much pipe you put in the ground I'm talking about how high the water comes up in the pipe voluntarily. In my area you can find a good aquifer ( Plenty of water flowing through coarse sand)at around 20'. After you put down 20' of pipe with a 4' point on the end The water will come up in the pipe to a depth about 12 foot.

I'm not opposed to running a small pump if I can wire it to solar, or run a generator

This is the only hand pump I have had experience with and This is what we use to dig the well with.

You just keep adding 10 foot sections of 3/4 inch gavinized pipe.

It is not that hard. Especially if you have a water supply near by or if it is shallow and can dig or good dirt

    Thanks

Can you go shallower with this setup than say a well running a whole house? IE just emergency needs only. Seems like a good addition never really thought about it. Just asking because I know the well that runs my sprinklers and outside faucets is pretty damn deep.

I have 3 wells on 10 acres, the original one hit h2o at 17', they went down to about 65' and drew back to around 50-55', 1/2 horse pump
the other two are deeper, 1.5 horse pumps, around 165' to 180'

    always wanted a hand pump...

When using a hand auger, how do you keep the ground below from collapsing in on you when inserting the piping? Especially when in countering the water table.
Also stay away from your septic drain field or your neighbors.
