I want to experiment with cold bluing. Has anyone done it on a surface that has been bead blasted? I mean a sheet metal part? I know it will turn out different than a machined/milled piece but what do the results look like?

I tried bluing a very inexpensive revolver (read Saturday night special). Even though JohnAL has never seen it, he described it perfectly.

Yeah, I've done the other finishes but I kind of wanted to play with bluing.

John (AL). Is it because of bead blasting or cold bluing doesn't work? I wanted to do something on a part to sort of match the rest of the rifle.

How difficult is it to cerecote a revolver? I have thought about doing one but am concerned about the cylinder.

Not difficult at all. Just use high temp silicone plugs to keep the paint out of the cylinder bores.

Many different brands of cold blue, liquid and paste. Some work better than others and all are inexpensive so it doesnt hurt to try. Some metals turn out good and others not too great. Bead blasted metals should probably do pretty good. This Colt 1911 slide took pretty well but the Foster frame was a different story and after repeated tries heating metal and cold this was the best I could get. The brand of blue used was G96 paste and liquid. Hot tank blue would be nice but very few people do that anymore that I can find especially for a reasonable price.
