PMd you. Didn't want to keep on on this thread. Had something else I've not found a good answer to.
Start a new thread on it! I love reading and learning about all this reloading stuff. :)

I may if I have some other issues. Definitely great to be able to use Large Pistol Primers for low pressure loads. Large rifle are hard to get.

Reloading with bullets without cannelure, 5.56, how do you know if you have enough neck tension? Am I worried over nothing?

unless your die has been modified you should have enough. You could always go back and lightly use the crimp function the die may have. I try to crimp anything that will run in a semi...bolt gun not so much.

Not wanting to crimp at all, being match bullets and all. Was just concerned about running them in an AR. Done it before but I never thought about it.

I would say at least .003” of tension unlubed neck/bullet. Measure bullet diameter and neck I.D. More tension if neck or bullet is lubed

If, upon chambering, the bullet doesn't go deep into the case, there is enough tension. In 10's of thousands of .223/5.56 reloads, I've never crimped and have had no problems, including automatic firing.

I'm not a fan of hard kicking, so my trapdoor loads are certainly mild (M1888 trapdoor that belonged to the New York State Guard).
    Bruce!
You mentioned a few post above that you used 12 grains of Unique for your 45/70 loads.
    Are you pushing 405gr lead?

If so, I wanna give that combo a try in my 1883 Trapdoor since I have that size/gr. Lee Mold.

I think I have some 405gr lead sized and lubed if you want to try them before you cast them...just can't remember the bullet profile.

Yes 12.0gr Unique, Lee HB cast bullet. Mine come out at 395gr cast of 20/1 lead to tin. Lubed with NRA formula 50/50. I do not size them as they come out .463” and that is my groove diameter. Be careful to not double charge the case. About 1100fps.

Does anyone have experience in buying 223 ammo then pulling the bullets, reseating them, and finding the sweet spot for accuracy? A guy told me that he routinely does it.

I agree. Gotta be less effort to just work up to it.

Anyone use cfe pistol for 45 colt? 185 grain bullets. Getting a little bit of black down the outside of the brass and have little light brown baits of powder? Never ran into it before

I'm not sure I should contribute. Today's loading manuals are at least three grains lower for max loads than my Old Lyman manuals listed for accuracy loadings in my day. So how many folks still run a smelting pot?
