Yes went a few years back, was a experience I will remember. We put in for several years before we got drawn. What every you do . start planning ahead, talk to people that have been on the hunt learn all you can. You can put in on two points of the inland two camp at , Don't know if they still have the tours ,but check on it , and if they do , go on it. WE planed for a year. would like to go again. Would be glad to meet up some time if you would like to. Just my 5 cents jj
Pick up a 12 pack of Stella and drink half with me…. By the time we’re done you’ll know all about the island…. Been there a few times… Grew up living in the area… I’ve killed 3 stag, wouldn't shoot any of the half dozen hind’s I’ve had in front of me over the years…
Its been 15 years since I've been on the hunt. I would Iove to go again.
I remember more pygmy rattlers than you could count, crazy wild hogs and lots of walking. Plus there was a hunt cut off time, so no afternoon hunt on the Sambar Deer hunt. Primitive camping only.
I was glad I brought a fishing pole. Nothing beats the taste of fresh caught red fish and trout for dinner.
I went on an archery hunt in 1974.
We were dumb kids and took a jon boat powered by a 1957 Johnson 7.5 hp outboard across Indian Pass.
The trip across on Wednesday was fine. The pass was like a pond. The trip back on Sunday was scary. The pass was white capping.
I remember most of the people in the camp were very serious - early to bed and out of camp way before daylight. If you didn’t leave camp early enough to get somewhere before daylight, the wardens wouldn’t let you leave. They didn’t want people walking around during certain hours.
Lots of walking. There is a dirt road on the island. Some people brought bicycles.
It was fun back then, wouldn’t care to do it now.
