My friend has a .38 special his dad gave him and hes looking for some info. It doesnt have a spot for a lanyard loop and it has "england" on the cylinder and a crown with "bmp" stamped under that. Made in usa on right side of frame and serial number v534xxx on butt.

Some of those you have to have the hammer pulled back to the first click then release the cylinder catch on the side

M&P wartime export? Im sure one of the s&w experts will chime in soon. I had an old regulation police that was very hard to open the cylinder, turned out it was the screw that held the crane in place was worn out.

The serial number appears to be a Victory serial number from August or Sept of 1942, but the nickel plating and lack of lanyard hole don't sound right for a Victory.

Rem yea i got it to open once then couldnt again. It was the little cap on the end of the guide rod unscrwed some and was binding it up. Took jj all of about half a sec to diagnose and fix it. Don thats what was thowing me off also. Jj showed me where the lanyard loop hole was plugged by someone though. Prob nickeled by the same person.
