270 win deer hunting ammo advice.

What you guys knocking deer down or leaves a good blood trail? Federal fusion, Hornady?

Don't own a .270 but have used a .243 and a .308, always used factory loaded Remington Core-Lokt, not sure its made anymore since
Remington went under.

Never had a problem with it, the deer never went more than a few yards if I did my part, not sure it really makes a difference as
long as you use good modern designed ammunition.

I prefer a 140 grain bonded bullet in my .270.

I switched my deer rifle over to a 270 last year. Shot three deer at distances from 50-150 yards and all three dropped in their tracks with core lokt 130 grain.

If I was going to shoot a 270 I would shoot Hornady American Whitetail, it's available in 130 grain and 140 grain and cost just over $20. This is actually Hornady's old custom ammo they just changed the packaging. I shoot it in my 7mm, my oldest son shoots it in 7mm, 270, and 308 and my youngest son shoots it in 350 legend and 6.5 Creedmoor. I shoot it in several other calibers also it shoots under 1 inch groups in every gun we have shot it in and it has very good performance on deer in the above calibers.

Was going to reccomend hornady black but they don't make it for 270. (308) DRT round.

My wife and both shoot Coreloks in our 270 and 308. Both deer had to be tracked with little or no blood trail 100 yards away. Small exit wounds. Maybe it’s just us, but I accuse my wife of shooting blood less bullets. I want to try something else.

Try the hornady black in the 308. Jacket busts and gets caught in hide on exit side, looks like a gernade went off in em.

I prefer a 140gr in the 270, and I handload my own. Nothing wrong with any factory loaded 130gr 270. Off the shelf, I’d probably opt for Winchester Power Points, and wouldn’t pass on a 150gr load. No need for a bonded bullet or copper bullet for our southern whitetail deer, IMO.

Not going to argue but the core should not separate from the jacket, all in all it still did the job.

Winchester PDX in x39 works good too. I think they make it for 308.

My M70 270 rifles simply like the Winchester 150 power points.
It's available most places and relatively inexpensive.
Both rifles will shoot it to 1" at 100 yards.
One shot and have never lost a deer - 1/2 time DRT.
Always complete pass-thru, even chest out the flank.
Double shoulder you get a mess-up off should but that shot is DRT.
Can't ask for much more from an inexpensive factory ammo.

just about any factory 270 hunting load will drop a deer ...maybe an edge with 130/140 grain imho ...i up gunned from 243/270/7 mm mag deer slayers in nj to reach out a little farther with a 300 win mag but paid the price with recoil
