I'm not a big fan of continuing to waste billions of taxpayer dollars funding a conflict involving a rival global peer (Russia/Ukraine), especially if we can't keep our own back yard clean of threats and trash.

Basically every marine I ever talked to that served from 1965-2011, did “peace keeping” in Haiti. In Jan of 2010 they asked for volunteers and I waived dwell time and begged to go.

    Guess I was too eager.

short version: nothing new, move along citizen.

Haiti is what you get when the indigenous population is decimated, replaced by a commodity population, and then the business venture is abandoned leaving the commodity to govern itself.

Or, this is all some tragic chain of unrelated events that just resulted in misfortune...

I was in Guantanamo with a USMC Special MAGTAF, we were tasked with taking over the airport at Port Au Prince with the SOTG unit form the East Coast, once there follow on troops would be airdropped via USAF C-130’s. After being in Gitmo for 60 days, political negotiations sent us home…then the Canadian embassy was overrun and another operation happened. This was during the 1990’s…

Let’s see non functional government. Gangs running rampant in major cities. Drugs and more gangs flooding over borders. Crime murder and robbery going unchecked. Sounds a lot like here.
