Freedom munitions is part of the reason I got into reloading. Had a box of 223 that would push the bullet back into the case when chambering, pouring powder everywhere. There was a few from that box that I pulled the bullet out of the case by hand. Also had a squib 9mm from them. Swore them off and set out to make my own, very glad I did.

What are they using, pistol powder? You can’t get enough Tac in a 223 case to do this. Powder choice would prevent this from being possible.

that is a pretty deep ejector mark and the primer sucked into the firing pin hole a good ways!
    glad you weren't injured!

I would pull a couple and check the charge weight. I have seen 55gr charges blow out the primer and stretch the case .007 or .008 with a 75gr bullet...looks like it generated a lot of pressure from something.

Jesus that case head is blown off. Freedom does kind of have a reputation which odd issues with their ammo. Do I still run it? Yes. Do I do so understanding that I could end up having a really bad day? Also yes.

What a lot of people don't realize, many reloaders included, is case length is very important. It doesn't take much for a case that's too long to jam into and past the throat/lede of a chamber thereby giving the neck nowhere to expand and release the bullet.

A pinched bullet is the same as a barrel obstruction and results in a heck of a lot of pressure... it's got to go somewhere. If the pinch force isn't overcome, that pressure is going out the ass end... resulting in a rather nasty situation.

A high-powered case fired a few times w/o trimming is flirting with disaster. I pose this as one of many possibilities.

I agree that could happen...and when you couple that with a rifle chamber that doesn't get completely cleaned... and routinely fires cases that are trimmed short...the carbon ring it leaves will make it even worse on a long case and bad on a SAAMI length.

I'm not a small arms designer but I did stay in a Holiday Inn last night. It is my understanding that the way the AR is designed it can't fire out of battery, I would say that round was way overcharged. I had a round blow out once, but it was a super freak thing. It happened with a new AR upper, with obviously piss poor QC at the factory. After about the initial ten rounds the base of the eleventh cartridge blew out. What had happened is apparently the barrel threads were cut way too shallow allowing the barrel to actually be pushed forward out of the barrel extension, therefore even though the bolt was locked into the extension, due to the barrel moving forward, there was about a quarter inch gap between the back of the chamber and the front of the bolt which caused the unsupported end of the cartridge to blow out. I emailed them the attached photos and they instantly sent me a new upper before I had even sent the old one back. Pretty sure they just wanted to keep me happy due to the litigious times we live in :) .

1st round out of the box ?
Would check oal of what’s left and crimps.
Wonder How much does pressure increase per mm of projectile pushed into case?

This post got me wondering what would happen if you put a primer inside the case with the powder and seated the bullet . Would it cause A concussion explosion, the same way a blasting cap works with high explosive charges? Definitely not something I want to try myself but this post has me wondering what happened here?

    Welllllll
What’s interesting is we had shot a few dozen rounds, and we had one FTE in a different AR15 with just a slightly bulged case at the base same place this one fully failed. Hindsight we should’ve stopped there and told FM to buy em back…

That slightly bulged case would have been end of shooting that batch for me.
