Hey folks. My daughter wants to buy a hand gun that she can carry in her purse and that will fit her size. She's about 5'2" and weighs in at 119 lbs. Nothing to powerful but able to stop a bad guy. Suggestions?
PS: She is going to get her permit asap.

I agree with Rebel but ill just throw my suggestion of looking at the S&W 642. My opinion is that its a simple, reliable and safe option that's worth considering. Its a bit snappy to shoot and only 5 shots is the trade off. I love mine though. (Not a pro)

Some gun ranges have rental guns , the Range I’m a member at will take the time to help a new shooter pick a gun that fits their hand and intend use. When you’ve narrowed it down to a couple , you can try them before you buy one. Not a bad way to decide, in my opinion.

This is the way. We discovered my 13 year old is best suited with an M-249 at the indoor range in Val-p.

The indoor range on 29 will let her try different guns. And they have ladies night! I think Wednesday but I’m not 100

Check out a Walther CCP 9mm. the slide is very easy to operate, has a manual safety, internal recoil buffer. 7 round mag and very concealable.

Take the course offered by JJ.
Then I reccomend a Ruger LCP MAX. --- SAWMAN
ADDED: My MAX has about 130rds thru it without a single malfunction. Accurate at the "normal" fighting ranges.

Glock 43 is what my wife has.
I personally would try to steer your daughter away from carrying in a purse but to look into different on body carrying options for women. If someone were to snatch that purse they’ll be walking away with more than just a wallet and Mary Kay junk. Just my opinion.

Sleeper pick for sure! Darn good gun. My wife is 5'3" too and has a S&W 637 Airweight. From recoil standpoint, a model 36 or 60 in .38spl might work too. LCP Plus is newer but a proven pistol in original LCP form. My fav single stack is the original S&W Shield. Let her try as many as possible. I have several of the above and would be happy to let her try any of them. +1 for jj getting her to send 'em downrange

Why not get her to take a class that offers a lot of difference hand guns to try be fore you buy and also has in the class how to pick what will work best for her and not get some thing that some one else is saying is best for her, are trying to sale. in other word yet her pict some thing that she will feel best with. Your are going at it backwards . I have this all the time and when they get to a class they find out they can't make it work . Just my 5 cents jj

My wife is 5'1" and honestly does better with larger grips than smaller ones at the range. She shoots the cz75d pcr and Beretta 92 better than any of the compacts she's tried, and the extra weight tames the recoil. That being said, I got her a m&p shield performance center 9mm and the ported barrel makes a huge difference in felt recoil. It just sounds like a damned howitzer when it fires. She shoots it pretty good, but surprisingly likes the larger framed double stacks better, even though she's got tiny hands

My wife uses a Kimber Micro 9 and the daughter uses a Springfield Hellcat, but that is what my girls use. I agree with all here, she should try out several guns and see what works for her.
