When I fight with my husband and lasts more than a day I play this to my self to help me bite my tongue so I won't disrespect him.
Then I joke with him by singing back at him:

"I'm gonna tell God how you treat me..
I'm gonna tell God how you treat me one of these days" ..:)

    Just as an interesting observation:

Even though this song has nothing in the lyrics or the visual to be of a sexual nature at all, nothing even suggestive, I found this song extremely sensualsomething about that tune was very feline and sexy for some reason got me in a mellow mellow mood.

Maybe it's a melody that causes women to surrender..ha!

    My husband thanks you! :)
Sexy ok, back when it came out it was working man that just no matter how hard he worked or how tough he was, could not win. you may not be old enough to know what the company store was in a mining town.
    Sixteen Tons
    Tennessee Ernie Ford
Some people say a man is made outta mud
A poor man's made outta muscle and blood
Muscle and blood and skin and bones
    A mind that's a-weak and a back that's strong

You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

I was born one mornin' when the sun didn't shine
I picked up my shovel and I walked to the mine
I loaded sixteen tons of number nine coal
And the straw boss said "Well, a-bless my soul"

You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

I was born one mornin', it was drizzlin' rain
Fightin' and trouble are my middle name
I was raised in the canebrake by an ol' mama lion
Can't no-a high-toned woman make me walk the line

You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

If you see me comin', better step aside
A lotta men didn't, a lotta men died
One fist of iron, the other of steel
If the right one don't a-get you, then the left one will

You load sixteen tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
Saint Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store

My husband explained what it means.
You were basically a slave because the company store was often the only available place to buy necessities, which were overpriced and sold on credit. So long as employees still owed money to the company store, they pretty much had no means of escape.

Perhaps because I had no such associations with the song, I was able to perceive just the melody as is and that explains why I found sensual.
I really liked it whichever take one has on it - very rich and deep tones if you want to put it in a different way.

there was a fair amount of blood shed in some of those towns. Mine safety of course was an issue. Mine blows up killing people and then there are strikes along with violence that go along with the poor working conditions. People are angry and in come labor organizers and the feces hits the horizontal ventilator.
Scene from an historical film of gun fight between the town of Matewan and hired coal company gunmen.

Actually this is pretty close, missing a few more men with guns, there were around sixteen or seventeen.

I'm not so sure. I visited Matewan last year. The locals retell the story much like its presented here. And they like to point out the bullet holes in the buildings.

    That escalated quickly.
I guess the song reflects the instinctual center where sexuality and fighting for one's life and willing to die fighting arise.
Violence can be beautiful when is naturally occurring.
A force of nature, is what I mean. Like the violence brought by a hurricane. Naturally occurring, naturally escalating because of the built up pressure from opposing elements.

    Anyway, the song is great!

Most of us here have been through multiple hurricanes. They are just a huge force that can not be stopped by man and you hope you are ok afterwards.

How about two songs on the Invasion of France?

This one tells of the 7th Panzer Division's remarkable advance in the summer of 1940, at times completely outpacing their supply and communication lines, and Rommel's division earning its nickname.

This one tells of 40 Belgian soldiers who fiercely held their position in the face of overwhelming odds (including Rommel's Ghost Division) for 18 days straight until they ran out of ammunition. When they finally surrendered, German officers asked where the rest of their company was - reportedly, the Belgians laughed and told them "we are all."
