Well almost....just waiting on the back-up sights to arrive and it will be all done. Went with a Burris 1.5 -6 MTAC with the 5.56 illuminated ballistic reticule and mounted a cheaper holographic site on a 45 degree angle to see how that works before spending big money on one. I think the 1.5x will work for most everything and the holographic red dot may not be needed because it seems I can acquire a quick sight picture with both eyes upon with the Burris dialed down to 1.5x.

It's built on a NFA stripped lower with a standard mil-spec lower parts kit. Everything fit together really tight. No looseness at all. I did have to do some light dremmel work on the area where the mag catch bolt fits. It would not slide far enough down in there where I could finish screwing in the mag catch to be flush with the bolt. One word of warning for anyone doing their first build that I learned the hard way. When it comes time to install the takedown pin detent and spring, put some sort of cover or backstop over the workspace to "catch" the spring and detent pin for when it slips off the rounded takedown pin bolt and slingshots across the room. I had a blast on my hands and knees with a flashlight hunting that stupid tiny pin for 30 minutes. Thankfully I had no music or noise in the background and heard them land so I had an idea of the general location start my search.

That looks evil.....it should be -- BANNED!

Yes the potential lethality of those pistol grips is to much to allow in the hands of a civilian. Might could allow them one pistol grip, but nobody needs two pistol grips to kill a deer!

You might look at a Ergo or magpul grip and the magpul CTR butt stock w pad, otherwise looks nice.

Already been eyeballing them Frank. I put the Viridian XL5 laser you sold me on the other side and it's so light and compact that you don't know it's there. Mounted on the side rail it's actually very easy to turn it on and off with the thumb and still keep a firm hold on the forward grip. Don't want to get to "tacti-cool" with it, but I may just leave it on there.

That is great and will work good. I have the rails to mount things and use QD ring mounts. That way, I carry various things I might use in my backpack and only put them on when needed. Think about it!

Thanks for the advise! The scope mount is the AR-P.E.R.P. QD. Not a bad idea for the other stuff as well. Funny how I started reloading to save money and have spent a fortune stockpiling components. Decided to build my own AR to "save money" and it's 40 bucks here, 100 there, and so on. But at least we get exactly what we want right?

The one good thing about my wife's shoe obsession is I can throw it back at her when buying my gun stuff. All I have to do is open her closet, which is a freaking converted bedroom, and point to over 150 pairs of shoes and say do you really need that! Of course she steadfastly states the case that each pair has a specific purpose and is accessorized to a particular combo of outfits. And so it is with my guns and their accessories I tell her, plus my weapons will not lose value, put food on the table, defend the house, and make commie leftest liberals lose sleep at night!

Dang it Frank. You cost me cold hard cash today man! Didn't go with a Magpul, but did get a MTF Battlelink stock and blackhawk ergonomic grip. This stock is STURDY and has a great little compartment with foam for storing stuff. Wasn't cheap but is made in the USA. Sights came in to so it is done. Here is the final rendition. Please no more suggestions, my wallet can't take anymore.

Now it looks nice!! Congrats!! And that NFA lower will keep the weight down and last a long time! I would get a 6.8 upper to interchange w it though!

Got my eye on a dedicated 6.8! I really wanted to pull the trigger on your fine offering a while back, but I've got an extra lower to build one up in the near future.

well I am not much of a builder and parts are hard to come by so I snagged 3 Complete NFA lowers just the other day!

I've actually read a lot of positive reviews on the polymer trigger group in the completed ones. Have you had a chance to mate one up and dry fire it yet? I don't doubt it's good because the trigger in my su-16c is as good as any standard AR-15 I've shot.
