It might help to list your budget, optics style preferred, etc. And what do you mean by "work?" Do you mean law enforcement, competition, civilian plinking, etc?

Idk if I would trust someone elses home built bastard gun in a self defense situation. I would either have to build it myself, shoot a couple thousand rounds or buy a factory built milspec rifle.

Don't list prices for EOTEC but should be able to get one for ~500 and put it on either of the above listed rifles and be within your $1500 limit

If I was LEO and looking for something to carry on duty there is no way I would buy something used.

You can get a Colt M4 with flip up sights at Walmart for $1097.

I got the colt m4 from Walmart and bought an aimpoint sight which I prefer over the busy eotech reticle.

Why is that header suspicious? Obviously you didn't get the I'm a cop part. By street ready I mean an AR that I can purchase and put straight into my patrol car...news flash, we are outgunned. Thanks for your concern though.
